Suspected militants fired upon Security Forces (SFs) in Chhanapora in Nowgam area in Srinagar District of Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) in India on February 6, reports Daily Excelsior.Official sources said, militants fired upon 29 Battalion of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) in Chanapora, in which one CRPF personnel sustained bullet injuries. A Commando Battalion for Resolute Action (CoBRA) jawan(trooper) and at least two cadres of the Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) were injured during an encounter on Toklo hills at the Jamro axis in West Singhbhum District of Jharkhand on February 7, reports Hindustan Times. “A CoBRA jawan has been injured while 2-3 Maoist extremists have also been hit in the encounter at Toklo hills of West Singhbhum district this morning. The injured jawan has been airlifted to Ranchi for appropriate medical care. The encounter happened on the border at West Singhbhum-Saraikela-Kharsawan-Khunti triangle. The search operation is still on and more details are awaited,” Ajay Linda, West Singhbhum,Superintendent of Police (SP), said. The injured CoBRA jawan has been identified as Narayan Chetri from Assam. “Narayan Chetri is now out of danger. The joint forces of district police, CRPF and CoBRA battalions have inflicted heavy damages on the Maoists. 2-3 Naxals [Left Wing Extremists, LWEs] have sustained bullet injuries and search is on to trace them. We have also seized pipe bombs, land mines, IEDs, several rounds of ammunition and rucksacks,” Rajiv Ranjan Singh, Kolhan,Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIGP), said.Police said a Maoist squad led by Toofan alias Patiram Majhi (Giridih), who has a bounty of INR 10 million on his head, and ‘area commander’ Maharaj Pramanik, who has a reward of INR 1 million on his head, opened fired on the Security Forces (SFs) when they were on a search operation. Stating that the operation was still on and would not stop until the Maoist squads active in the three districts of Kolhan are neutralised, the DIGP, Singh, said, “We will not spare anyone and will not stop before wiping out the Naxals completely. The developmental works for the people have been greatly hampered by these naxals and their subversive activities. They better surrender or be ready to be neutralized.”

Two Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) troopers identified as – Satyendra Singh and Vishnu Singh, were injured in an exchange of fire with the Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) cadres in Jhumra Pahad forest under Jageshwar Vihar Police Station limits in Bokaro District of Jharkhand on February 10, reports The Tribune. Acting on a tip-off about the presence of a Maoist camp, a joint team of Jharkhand Police and CRPF launched a combing operation in the area. On spotting the Security Forces (SFs), a group of around 50 Maoists opened fire, sparking off a gun-battle during which the CRPF troopers received serious bullet injuries.

Two paramilitary Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel including an officer were killed in a hit and run militant attack at Lawaypora area in Srinagar District of Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) in India on March 25, reports Daily Excelsior. Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of CRPF Srinagar sector, Kishore Panday said that at least four heavily armed militants fired on the Mobile Bunker Vehicle (MBV) of CRPF that was part of the Road Opening Party (ROP) at Lawaypora, killing two CRPF personnel and injuring two others in the attack. The slain CRPF personnel have been identified as Sub Inspector GD Manga Deb Barma and Constable Driver Ashok Kumar, while, the injured have been identified as Constable Jagan Nath Roy and Constable Nazim Ali. Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kashmir, Vijay Kumar said that the militants who carried out the attack had come from Bandipora, and preliminary investigations indicate that the attack was planned and carried out by the militants of Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) outfit.

Bastar range, Inspector General of Police (IGP), P Sundarraj, said, “A joint team of 222nd and 196th battalion of Central Reserve Police Force from Usoor and Galgam camps, was out on road safety and searching on Tuesday [July 13] when around 3.30 pm an encounter broke out with the rebels. The battle went on for about 45 minutes while reinforcements of Special Task Force [STF] and CRPF were sent to the spot. During the search, security personnel found uniformed body of a Maoist." Inspector General of Police (IGP), Bastar range, Sundarraj P said, a squad of the ITBP's 45th battalion, which was out on an area domination operation, was fired upon by a small action team of the Maoists, when it was approximately 600 metres away from the camp. On November 15, three militants belonging to the Yung Aung faction of the National Socialist Council of Nagaland-Khaplang (NSCN-KYA) were killed in an encounter in Longding District of Arunachal Pradesh. As per Police sources, the militants had abducted village chief Ranwang Lowang and ex-ASM Sunwang Hakhun of Laho village in Longding District on November 14 to get their due ransom amount from the villagers before November 20. During a search operation launched for the abducted persons, the militants were intercepted along the international border of India-Myanmar and a fierce encounter ensured. Three militants were killed while one Assam Rifles (AR) personal sustained injury in hand. Three AK series rifles, ammunition and warlike stores were recovered from the possession of the slain militants.
