A Special Task Force (STF) constable was injured during a fierce encounter between the Security Force (SFs) and Communist party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) cadres in the Dongerjog Forest area in Gariyaband District of Chhattisgarh on January 2, reports The Times of India. STF chief Vijay Pandey said that the security personnel were conducting a search operation when the rebels opened fire, leading to an encounter at Dongerjog Forest area. A constable Yuvaraj Sagar, who had sustained bullet injuries on his abdomen, airlifted to the State capital, Raipur, for treatment at a super specialty hospital, and his condition was reported to be stable.

One cadre of the Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) was killed in an encounter took place between the Police and Maoists in the Pachrukhia Hill area under Madanpur Block in Aurangabad District of Bihar on January 5, reports prabhatkhabar.com. Aurangabad Superintendent of Police (SP), Kantesh Kumar Mishra said that on January 5 evening, the Commando Battalion for resolute Action (CoBRA) personnel were conducting a search operation, and during this, on seeing them, the Maoists started firing, to which the soldiers also took the front and started retaliation. However, Police personnel are safe in the incident. Meanwhile, the Maoists also triggered an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) blast, as has been confirmed by the SP himself. The identity of the slain Maoist is yet to be ascertained.

Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) ‘politburo’ member Misir Besra and his squad members managed to escape following an encounter with Security Forces (SFs) in West Singhbhum District of Jharkhand early on January 10 (today), reports The Tribune. Acting on a tip-off, Jharkhand Police and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) launched a search operation during which Maoists opened fire on them, to which SFs retaliated, leading to a fierce gun-battle in a forest between Tumbahaka and Sarjamburu under Tonto Police Station area on January 9, Superintendent of Police (SP) Ajay Linda said. However, Besra and his squad made a hasty retreat into the thick forests, and no casualty had been reported on either side, SP, Linda said, adding that a combing operation is under way.

Odisha Police with the help of Security Force (SF) personnel busted a Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) camp and seized a huge cache of explosive materials and other Maoist items in dense forest area near Chhattisgarh border under Komna Police limits in Nuapada District of Odisha on January 12, reports sambadenglish.com. Sources said an exchange of fire took place between the SF personnel and the ultras inside the forest last night (January 12), however, the Maoists later managed to fled the spot. Nuapada Police said, “Acting on Intelligence input regarding camping of a large number of CPI Maoists in dense forest area near Odisha-Chhattisgarh border to carry out various anti-security forces strategies and other subversive activities, an anti-Naxal operation was launched by combined security forces of SOG [Special Operations Group], DVF [District Voluntary Force] and CRPF [Central Reserve Police Force] on January 7.” At around 8.45 am on January 9, when the commandos of SOG and DVF were conducting search operation in the forest area of Sunabeda Reserve Forest, around 50 to 60 armed Maoists opened indiscriminate fire at the security forces. The team retaliated in self-defense. Again on January 10, a combined team of SOG, DVF and CRPF was sent to that area for reinforcement, informed the cops. During search operation at about 9.45 am on January 12, armed Maoists again opened fire at the SFs and the latter retaliated, following which the Maoists fled the area. During a search operation, the combined SFs recovered several explosive and Maoist materials, including G.I. wire, tarpaulin, codex wire and a battery (12 V Big).

A huge quantity of explosives, suspected to be left behind by Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist), was found in Malkangiri District of Odisha on January 14, reports India Today. During a combing operation in Swabhiman Anchal (erstwhile cut-off region) on the Odisha-Andhra Pradesh border, personnel of the Special Operation Group (SOG) and District Voluntary Force (DVF) detected the dump of explosive materials in a forest near Maribeda and Nademanjari villages in Jodamba Police Station area, Superintendent of Police (SP), Nitesh Wadhwan said. Among the materials found were four tiffin bombs and 20 web belts, he said. Besides, 19 jungle caps and a large number of medicines were also found, he added. It is suspected that the Maoists fled the area, leaving behind the explosives, due to the combing operation, the officer said. "We are suspecting that these explosives belonged to Maoist cadres of AOBSZC (Andhra-Odisha Border Special Zonal Committee) and were intended to be used against civilians and security forces," he said.

Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and District Police have arrested two hardcore Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) cadres identified as Ramji Bhuyan and Phulendra Sao by conducting a combing operation in Aurangabad District of Bihar on January 17, reports hindi.news18.com. Superintendent of Police (SP), Kantesh Kumar Mishra said that Bhuyan is a resident of Koilwan of Madanpur Police Station area, while Phulendra is a resident of Ankuri village under Goh Police Station area. SP, Mishra said that there are a dozen serious cases registered against Bhuyan including attack on Madanpur block office and CRPF camp. At the same time, a dozen cases including ‘levy’ (extortion money) recovery, murder are registered against Phulendra from the contract company engaged in road construction work.

Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) s’ Telangana ‘state committee member’ Sudhakar was killed in an encounter in a forested area in the border of Semaldodi village under Ilmidi Police Station limits in Bijapur District of Chhattisgarh on January 18, reports Deccan Chronicle. Sudhakar, a ‘divisional committee (DVC) member’ and senior member of Telangana ‘state committee’ of Maoist was gunned down, Bastar range, Inspector General of Police (IGP), Sundarraj P. said. According to him, a search party of Greyhounds, the elite anti-Naxal [Left Wing Extremism, LWE] squad of Telangana State, commandos, was out on anti-Naxal operations in the Telangana-Chhattisgarh border following inputs on the movement of Sudhakar along with 40-50 Maoists in the area, and in the ensuing encounter Sudhakar was killed. One Self Loading Rifle (SLR) and one INSAS [Indian Small Arms System] assault rifle was also recovered by security personnel at the encounter site.

One Self-Loading Rifle (SLR) and a pistol, earlier looted from the SF personnel, were recovered from the encounter spot. The slain Maoists were identified as Jagdish Koda and Birendra Koda, who were evading arrest in connection with Maoist related incidents. Following a tip-off about a congregation of Maoists combing operation was launched in Lathia Forest, and armed Maoists started opening fire on seeing the SFs proceeding towards their hideouts. A fierce gun-battle ensued, leaving two Maoists dead and several others injured. The injured, however, managed to escape taking advantage of the topography of the area. An encounter took place between the squad of Ravindra Ganjhu, the ‘regional commander’ of CPI-Maoist, carrying reward of 1.5 million, and the SFs on February 10. During the combing operation, an IED kept hidden in the forest exploded as soon as the soldiers kept their feet, in which both the CoBRA troopers identified as Dilip Kumar (29) and Narayan Das (38) were injured. Later on, the Maoists fled after seeing the Security Forces (SFs) overwhelmed. The NIA, in coordination with Bihar Special Task Force (STF) and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), conducted searches at 26 locations of the accused and suspects in the districts of Jehanabad (8), Patna rural (2), Arwal (1), Nalanda (1), Gaya (8), Nawada (1) and Aurangabad (2) in Bihar, Koderma (1) district in Jharkhand, Bhubaneshwar (1) in Odisha and Nellore (1) in Andhra Pradesh. The case pertains to a network of terror financing being operated by CPI-Maoist cadres and Over Ground Workers (OGW)s in the Magadh region of Bihar, the official of the premier investigation agency said. In furtherance of their sinister motive, attempts are being made to raise funds for procurement of arms and ammunitions and recruitment of new cadres in liaison with incarcerated Naxals [Left Wing Extremists, LWEs] and OGWs in order to revive and strengthen Naxal activities in this region, the official said. Based on a tip-off about the presence of senior Maoist cadres, an operation was launched and the security personnel were dispatched to the area, Superintendent of Police (SP), Shalabh Sinha said, adding, as the Police team reached Kosronda, ultras opened fire, prompting the personnel to launch a retaliatory action. During a search at the encounter site on February 18 morning, drag marks of bodies were found at the scene, indicating a possibility of damage suffered by Maoists. It is being told that there was heavy firing from both the sides. More than 500 rounds of bullets have been fired in the 40-minute encounter. In this, many Maoists have been claimed to have been killed and injured, however, neither the body of any Maoist nor any weapon was recovered from the spot, though, during the search, marks of being dragged away have definitely been found. Some daily consumable items were also recovered from the encounter spot.

Bhadrachalam in-charge Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), B Rohith Raj informed that the local Police and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) 141 Battalion personnel during combing operations spotted four persons moving suspiciously in the forests. One of them was arrested by the Police and during interrogation he revealed his identity as the Cherla Local Operation Squad (LOS) member, Bonala Raju alias Gagan of Peddamasanpalli village in Siddipet District, while others escaped. After being a sympathiser for the Maoists for some time he joined the underground cadres in 2021. Gagan served as the guard to the Maoist Bhadradri Kothagudem East Godavari (BKEG) Committee ‘secretary’ Koyyada Sambaiah alias Azad and was later shifted to Cherla LOS. A case was booked against him in an extortion case in Siddipet three-town Police Station. A District Reserve Guards (DRG) head constable was killed in an encounter with Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) cadres in Tulargufa Forest area in Mungeri region under Chhotedonger Police Station limits in Narayanpur District of Chhattisgarh on May 4 morning, reports The Times of India. Inspector General of Police (IGP), Sundarraj Pattilingam, said, the shooting exchange took place at around 8:15 am [IST] in forests of Tulargufa and Mungeri region at Chhotedonger. A joint team of Security Forces (SFs) including DRG and Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) were on search operation along the borders of Palli-Barsoor area of Narayanpur-Dantewada districts on May 3. Next morning on May 4, when the troopers marched towards the Mungeri forest area, the Maoists started indiscriminate firing seeing the SFs and during the exchange the fire, DRG head constable Salik Ram Markam (37), from Kanker District, sustained bullet injuries and later succumbed to his injuries.

Maoist activities are still going on in some parts of Boipariguda and Machhkund under Lamtaput Block (administrative division) in Koraput District, said Superintendent of Police (SP), Varun Guntupalli said, on recovery of old explosives in a forest. Guntupalli stated that Police received inputs late May 10 night about explosives hidden in forest between Panching and Balpai villages. A team of DVF and an anti-bomb squad jointly carried out a search operation in the area. The Maoists had buried the explosives in the forest many years ago. The Police recovered a CP Riot gun, 38-mm rubber bullet, six packets of liquid explosives (OPR gel) and a pair of cutting pliers. The Riot gun recovered here was one of the arms looted from Koraput armoury in 2004. It may be noted here that Maoists had mounted an attack on the armory February 6, 2004. According to information, at about 9 pm [IST] on May 15, a few Maoists reached Chennapuram base camp where CRPF personnel were stationed and opened two rounds of fire, however, the CRPF personnel, who became alert, returned fire to defend themselves. After the exchange of fire for a few minutes, the Maoists’ escaped. The Police forces immediately launched a search operation to arrest Maoists. It is learnt that the ultras also attacked Thoggudem Police base camp under Pamedu Police Station limits in Khammam District, before attacking on Chennapuram base camp. “The Maoists are opposing the setting up of police base camps in Telangana and Chhattisgarh borders for quite some time now. Acting on information about presence of a few Maoist cadres on the hills of Kharadi village, about 70 kilometres from District Headquarters Balaghat, a team of 50 personnel of Hawk Force, (special anti-Naxal Force of MP Police) launched the combing operation, in which the Maoists were killed. The slain Maoist trio collectively carried a reward of over INR 5.7 million on their heads. Nagesh, who carried a bounty of INR 2.9 million on him, was the ‘commander’ of Tanda area committee of Mafalling under Gondia-Rajnandgaon-Balaghat (GRB) area of Maharashtra-Madhya Pradesh-Chhattisgarh (MMC) corridor. Manoj and Rama, both members of the area committee, carried a bounty of INR 1.4 million each on them. The encounter comes months after Maharashtra Police killed 26 Maoist cadres in MMC zone, where Police say Maoists are trying to expand their base. Police said, there are at least 13 cases registered against Nagesh in Maharashtra and Chhattisgarh, while, Rama, a resident of Sukma in Chhattisgarh, had 12 cases against her, and Manoj had three cases against him. Three Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel were killed in a Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) attack in Patadhara Reserve Forest in Bheden Block (administrative division) in Nuapada District of Odisha on June 21, reports oneindia.com. The incident happened when the CRPF personnel were going from one camp to another, and it is suspected that the Maoists had prior information regarding the movement of the forces, a Police officer said. All of a sudden, they opened fire on the forces, he said. The dead include Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Shishu Pal Singh, ASI Shiv Lal, and Constable Dharmendra Kumar Singh the CRPF, officials said. Combing operations have been intensified in the area, and more teams of the Special Operations Group (SOG) and CRPF are moving to the site. Following reliable inputs about movement of Maoists, the Security Forces (SFs) launched a combing operation, and while the search was on, the Maoists started firing indiscriminately from Light Machine Gun (LMG) and other automatic weapons on the Police. The operational party retaliated and fired from Under Barrel Grenade Launcher (UBGL) and AK-47. Due to heavy counter fire by Police, the Maoists retracted from their camp, Superintendent of Police (SP), Abhilash G said. The National Investigation Agency (NIA), on June 23, conducted searches at multiple locations in Telangana and arrested three persons for their alleged involvement in recruiting youth for the Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist), reports Devdiscourse. The NIA carried out searches at three places in Ranga Reddy and Medak and Secunderabad districts in connection with the Pedabayalu CPI-Maoist recruitment case and arrested the trio including a woman High Court Advocate, identified as Chukka Shilpa. The two other accused have been identified as Dongari Devendra and Dubasi Swapna. The NIA also seized incriminating materials including digital devices. The case pertains to the conspiracy and recruitment of a college student into the fold of the outfit by the leaders, members of Chaitanya Mahila Sangham (CMS), a frontal organisation of CPI-Maoist, NIA said in a release. The case was initially registered at Pedabayalu Police Station of Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh in January this year. The NIA had re-registered the case on June 3 and taken over the investigation. Based on the searches, the agency arrested the three accused.

The explosive packed in an iron pipe, weighing 10 kilograms, also called a pipe bomb, was seized near Tekapar village under Koyalibeda Police Station limits when a team of District Reserve Guard (DRG) was out on a search operation, said Amarnath Sidar, Sub Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Antagarh. While cordoning off a forested hill, the patrolling team detected the bomb hidden under bushes along a dirt track to target SFs, he said, adding that a major tragedy was averted with the recovery. Following the exchange of fire, the Maoists escaped into deep forest. Later in the day, while the security forces were carrying out combing operation, the Maoists again opened fire and an exchange of fire ensued for around 5 minutes. The Odisha Police have busted an ammunition dump, suspected to have been used by the Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) for illegal manufacturing and repair of weapons, from a forest area near Dhakadpadar village under Jodamba Tehsil (revenue unit) in Malkangiri District of Odisha on November 23, reports The Statesman. Security Force (SF) personnel recovered 12 Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), suspected to have been planted by the Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist), from Budhapahad in Latehar District of Jharkhand on November 25, reports The Print. In the course of the ongoing anti-Maoist “operation Octopus” jointly launched by the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Jharkhand Jaguar, CoBRA (Commando Battalion for Resolute Action) battalions and District Armed Police (DAP) in Latehar District, the security personnel recovered the IEDs during a search operation in the Budhapahad Forests, Latehar, Superintendent of Police (SP), Anjani Anjan, said. The Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) defused the IEDs of different weights, including seven and 10 kilograms, the SP added.

According to the Police, on the basis of intelligence, the Police raided Patratoli Forest near Nindir village and arrested a 30-year-old Naxalite named Raju Yadav alias Raju Ji. The Police said that Yadav, a resident of Chetar village of Chandwa area of the district, was the self-styled 'area commander' of the banned outfit and was wanted in nine criminal cases. A .303 rifle, 82 cartridges, two mobile phones and three SIM cards were also seized from his possession, the Police said in a statement.

Deputy Inspector General (DIG), Kolhan, Ajay Linda said, the incident occurred in the forest between Rengrahatu and Tumbahaka villages under the Tonto Police Station limits when a joint team of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), CoBRA, Jharkhand Jaguar (JJ) and District Armed Police (DAP) personnel was conducting the operation. Acting on a tip-off about the presence of top CPI-Maoist leader Misir Besra, who carries a bounty of INR 10 million on his head, and Patiram Manjhi alias Anal da along with their squad members in the forest areas, the operation was launched, West Singhbhum, Superintendent of Police (SP), Ashutosh Shekhar said, adding that Prabhakar Sahni, the injured inspector, was airlifted and admitted to a hospital in Ranchi. Also, ten IEDs planted by members of banned CPI-Maoist outfit were recovered from a forest near Ichahatu village under the Goilkera Police Station limits, he said. However, no injury or casualty was reported in the incident, officials said, adding that the incident was reported in Orchha Police Station limits about 65 kilometers away from district headquarters when a joint team of District Reserve Guard (DRG) and Chhattisgarh Armed Force (CAF) were out for area domination towards Gudari village when the IED blast occurred. Soon after the explosion, Maoists, who were hiding in the area started firing at the team. In response to the same, the SFs responded to the firing, forcing Maoists to flee. The DRG and CAF teams carried out searches and recovered material used for IED explosion including wires and pieces of the pressure cooker used in the blast in the area.
