Police in the Raichur district have intensified the combing operation in the Hutti and surrounding villages of Lingsugur taluk (administrative division), suspecting the presence of Naxalites (left-wing extremists) from Malnad region in these villages. New Indian Express reports that police are suspecting that Naxalite movement had increased in these villages following the recent encounters in Malnad region. Intelligence reports reportedly indicated that Naxalites have been camping in villages like Gudadanal, Gurgunta, Golapalli, Gejjalgatta and Hutti.

Eight persons, including two cadres of the Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist), were arrested following a raid in Ghatsila sub-division of East Singhbhum district in connection with the killing of the Member of Parliament Sunil Mahato on March 4, reports The Hindu. The two Maoists were identified as Rajan Mahto alias Santosh and Nirmal Mahto alias Vikash. Superintendent of Police Pankaj Darad said that while the six of the eight arrested claimed that they did not known anything about the plan, their services were used by the Maoist in scaring away the locals after the incident. The six persons also used to provide food, shelter and geographical information to the Maoists for past several months, Darad said.

On March 13, five cadres of the Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist), including an area commander, were arrested in Bihar, reports IndiaeNews. While area commander Vijay Ram, was involved in the Jehanabad jailbreak in 2005, was arrested from a village in Jehanabad district, four other extremists were arrested from a village in the Darbhanga district, during a search operation by a special task force (STF) team. Ram had escaped from the jail along with mastermind of Jehanabad jailbreak Ajay Kanu, who was arrested in February 2006 and is currently lodged in Patna's Beur jail. The STF team also recovered arms, ammunition and Maoist literature from their arrested extremists.

Hindustan Times reports that Police, acting on a tip off, raided a Rampurhat in West Bengal bound private bus near Pusaro bridge, about five kilometers away from the district headquarters and arrested one Sapan Ravi Das of village Rajgram under Suri subdivision of Birbhum district of West Bengal along with the explosives. Jharkhand Police said the audiocassette - issued by the Bengal, Orissa and Jharkhand Regional Committee of the CPI-Maoist - was seized along with pamphlets and other material during a raid in Jamshedpur on May 9. "This is the first time Maoists have issued a threat to politicians through an audiocassette," an unnamed police official told IANS on May 11. Voiced by Sukhdeo, the committee's secretary, the tape allegedly says: "A conspiracy is hatched to suppress the CPI-Maoist revolutionary movement by the leaders. Inspector-General of Police, Giridhari Nayak, said the weapons were looted by Maoists after killing seven police personnel in the Gadchiroli district of Maharashtra in 2005. "Aitu is a big gun. He was a terror icon in Chhattisgarh as well as in Maharashtra and sneaked into Dongargarh a few days ago from his forest hideout in Bastar, probably for medical treatment," an unnamed police official told IANS. "Sixteen Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel, including an Assistant Commandant, Vijay Nandkishore Titre, six special police officers (SPOs) and two from Dantewada district forces were killed in the Elampatti-Regadgatta forest of Dantewada district, about 550 km from the state capital," Chhattisgarh Director General of Police, Vishwaranjan, told PTI. The dead bodies of all the 24 SF personnel, who had gone missing after a fierce gun battle, have been recovered in Konta block, Girdhari Nayak, Inspector General of Police (Maoist-operations), told IANS, and added, "The search teams of CRPF and state police, assisted by helicopters, recovered the bodies from a hilly terrain of Konta block, close to Andhra Pradesh border."
