According to a media report, left-wing extremists (also known as Naxalites) of the Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) have released one more labourer on February 10 while there is no information on the 18 others who were abducted from two villages in the Sambalpur district of Orissa on February 9. The Naxalites reportedly abducted at least 23 labourers and later released four on February 9. Following the incident, the State Police have put five districts – Sambalpur, Jharsuguda, Deogarh, Sundargarh and Angul – on alert. According to Home Secretary, Santosh Kumar, a contingent of 200 armed police had begun the combing operation on February 9 while 100 more personnel were sent later.

Six police personnel were reportedly killed when suspected left-wing extremists (also known as Naxalites) of the Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) attacked a Karnataka State Reserve Police camp at Venkammanahalli under Pavagada revenue division of the Tumkur district with hand grenades on February 11. The police personnel were resting in their camp in a school building in an interior area after carrying out combing operations in the Naxalite-affected Pavagada division bordering the State of Andhra Pradesh when the bombs exploded, Karnataka’s police chief, S N Borkar, told the Press Trust of India. "It is definitely the handiwork of Naxalites," he said. The Naxalite attack comes a few days after their top leader, Saketh Rajan alias Prem, was shot dead by police during an encounter along with another associate in the Chikamagalur district last week. Police suspect that the incident was in retaliation to the Chikamagalur operation.

The police also recovered 14 rounds of live ammunition and two spent bullets of .303 rifles, two kitbags, a tent, clothes and party literature left behind by Indervelli dalam (squad) members. The Adilabad Superintendent of Police, Kripanand Tripathi Ujela, stated that the police had persisted in their search of the place in a radius of 1 km because the Maoists had fled in different directions following the exchange of fire.

Police in the Gaya district of Bihar have reportedly recovered an unspecified quantity of arms from an illegal arms factory at Digdi Matuya village on April 22. The factory owner, Mohammed Iftiyak, and some of his workers were arrested. "We received information that left wing extremists (also known as Naxalites) are running an illegal arms factory. Then we raided the place and arrested a person called Mohammed Iftiyak," said Janardan Singh, Station House Officer of the Konch Police station. According to reports, illegal arms factories are flourishing in the Naxalite-affected districts of Bihar like Jehanabad, Gaya and Nalanda. The Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) and other Naxalite groups are allegedly the driving force behind these units. There are reportedly over 1,500 illegal arms manufacturing units in Bihar and most of them are located in the Nalanda, Nawada, Gaya and Munger districts.

In the first incident, exchange of fire took place between a special police party on a combing operation and a group of Maoists at Boyagutta near Madanapuram. Police subsequently recovered three bodies from the encounter site. A tapancha (locally made revolver), two kit bags, some used cartridges of 9 mm carbine along with revolutionary material were also recovered. In another encounter, on the hillocks of Urukonda village in Midjil mandal, a Maoist, suspected to be the member of an action team, was killed. Police recovered one tapancha and about 100 non-electrical detonators from the site of encounter.
