Police arrested two Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) cadres, identified as Sodi Kosa Mooda and Podium Moodaalu, along with explosive materials from Mulugu District of Telangana on January 22, reports Telangana Today. The duo worked as members of Dandakaranya Aadivaasi Kissan Mazdoor Sangham (DKAKMS) of CPI-Maoist in the District. After receiving reliable information about the movement of the Maoists, a team of Security Forces (SFs) launched a combing operation. “While conducting combing operation, they have found some members armed with fire arms and deadly weapons like knifes, bows and arrows who were planting explosives with the intension to kill the Police party. On seeing the SFs, they tried to escape. However, two of them were caught along with some explosive material,” said Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Gaush Alam.

Security Forces (SFs) arrested two Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) ‘militia members’, along with explosive materials from Kurnapalli forest area in Cherla Mandal (administrative sub-division) in Bhadradri Kothagudem District of Telangana on January 24, reports Telangana Today. Circle Inspector (CI) B. Ashok stated that a search team comprising Cherla Police, Special Party personnel and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF)’s 141 Battalion spotted three persons moving suspiciously in the forests. The SFs chased them and took two persons into custody while the third one ran away. The arrested persons were identified as – Kovasi Bhimaiah of Dokupadu in Chhattisgarh and Sodi Deepak of Burugupadu, in Charla Mandal. Both were serving as couriers for CPI-Maoist for the past three years besides being the ‘militia members’ of Cherla Area Committee.

Two Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) cadres, identified as – Guddi Madvi (28), ‘deputy chief commander’ of the Katekalyan area committee and his accomplice ‘commander’ Pele Madvi (26), were arrested by Chhattisgarh Police from Peniguda village in Bhadradri Kothagudem District of Telangana on February 15, reports The Outlook. One of the Maoists - Guddi Madvi was involved in the killing of a BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) MLA (Member of the Legislative Assembly) Bhima Mandavi in 2019. “Guddi Madvi was involved in the landmine explosion in April, 2019 near Shyamgiri that killed Dantewada MLA Bhima Mandavi and four of his security personnel. They are also involved in offences like planting IEDs, damaging property etc,” said Dantewada Superintendent of Police (SP) Abhishek Pallava adding that while Madvi had a reward of INR 8,50,000 on his head, the bounty on Pele was INR 500,000.

Police arrested seven ‘militia members’ of the Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist), allegedly involved in 18 cases, and recovered explosive materials from their possession during a combing operation in Pamunuru forest area in Mulugu District of Telangana on February 22, reports Telangana Today. The arrestees are identified as – Undam Pandu, MucchakiBheemaiah, SodiLaxmaiah, MadaviAdamaiah, MadaviBudra, MadaviIthaiah, and MadaviKosa. The ‘militia members’ were arrested while they were planting explosives with intention to kill Police personnel in the said area. After seeing the Police, they tried to escape, but Police arrested seven of them, Superintendent of Police (SP) Sangram Singh Patil said adding that Police recovered nine crude land mines besides detonators, electric wires, batteries and other items from two places in the said forest.

Police arrested an ‘area committee member (ACM)’ and a courier of CPI-Maoist at Cherla bus stand at Khammam District of Telangana on February 23, reports The Hans India. They were identified as – PaddamMunnialiasTellamMunni, Indravati Area Committee Member (Dandakaranya) of Savanar village and Jarpula Bansi, a contractor of Avupalli of Bijapur District in Chhattisgarh. Munni joined the CPI-Maoists in 2011 and worked as a ‘militia member’ till 2014 of Maddedu Area Committee. In 2015, she was shifted to Krantikari Mahila Sangham (KMS) of Indravati Area Committee and in 2018 and later she was promoted as an area committee member (ACM). Bansi, who was working as a courier to Maddedu Area Maoist party LGS (Local Guerilla Squad) commander Nagesh, used to supply groceries and explosives to Maoists. Fifty gelatin sticks and 50 electric detonators were recovered from their possession.

Police arrested eight Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) couriers and recovered explosive materials from their possession in separate incidents in Cherla and Dummugudem Mandals (administrative sub-divisions) in Bhadradri Kothagudem District of Telangana on March 4, reports Telangana Today. Bhadrachalam Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Vineeth G, said Dummugudem Police and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel who were engaged in vehicle inspection at Reguballi village of Dummugudem Mandal spotted two persons moving suspiciously, took them into custody and recovered explosive material from them. Based on the information they provided, Police arrested six others at Cherla bus stand. The arrested persons were labourers working at Sita Rama Lift Irrigation project and Polavaram Project. They stole the explosive material to supply them to the Maoists on the orders of Maoist ‘Gundala Area Committee’ in-charge Bhadru alias Papanna. The Police recovered 350 electrical detonators, 130 metres cordex wire, nine liquid gelatin sticks, a motor bike and INR 17, 000 cash, the ASP added.

Cherla Police and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) forces jointly arrested one Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) militia member and recovered a pressure cooker bomb and a land mine at Rallavagu forest area in Cherla Mandal (administrative sub-division) in Bhadradri Kothagudem District of Telangana on April 1, reports The New Indian Express. During combing operations between Battigudem and Rallavagu forest area, the forces came across some persons and asked them to stop. All the persons except one escaped. They also found a pressure cooker bomb and a land mine, which was defused by a bomb squad. On questioning, the arrested man, identified as M Rajanna alias Rajaiah, revealed that about 20 Maoist militia members have been planting pressure cooker bombs and land mines in Rallapuram, Veerapuram and Burgampad areas to target Police forces.

A statement from the Police said, during combing operations, a few persons were found planting explosive material on a forest track. The Police arrested them and questioned them. The arrested Maoist militia members revealed their identity as Kunjam Sanna, of Basaguda in Bijapur District of Chhattisgarh, Sodi Pojje, Vetti Itha and Madivi Raje of Cherla Mandal, and all were working as Maoist militia members for the past one year. The arrested CPI-Maoist cadre, Deva is a “Deputy Commander” of the CPI-Maoist party’s 5th company, 2nd Platoon ‘A’ section and resident of Goddaliguda village which falls under the limits of Dornapal Police Station of Sukma District in Chhattisgarh. He joined CPI-Maoist in the year 2011 and worked in Sukma and Kanker Districts of Chhattisgarh and was involved in exchange of fire incidents with Border Security Force (BSF) jawans near Ravugat area, Marram village under Kolibeda Police station limits and in an attempt on the life of a BJP leader, Manthu in Pakhanjur area in Kanker District in 2015. During a search operation, a joint squad of Venkatapuram Police and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel nabbed Boodu after a brief chase, when the latter allegedly tried to flee along with several other militia members on noticing the Police in the Pamunuru forest area on May 30. SFs recovered explosive substances including two pressure cooker bombs, two tiffin box bombs, four detonators, electric wire bundles, batteries and a walkie-talkie from his possession. Gaddam Madhukar and a courier were arrested during a vehicle-check by Police. Madhukar was suffering from Covid-19, had come to Warangal for the treatment with the help of the courier, a minor. Several cases against him were pending in the Police Stations of Bastar Division. Madhukar who hails from Kumaram Bheem Asifabad District in Telangana had joined the Sirpur Dalam (armed squad) of the then People’s War Group (PWG)) in 1999. The Naxal [Left Wing Extremism (LWE)] outfit later shifted him to DKSZC and since then, he was involved in several offences including killing of Police personnel and snatching away their weapons. The CPI-Maoist courier went to Venkatapuram forest area in a car and was bringing Madhukar to Hanamkonda for admission in a hospital. When Police searched the vehicle at the check post, Madhukar was found hiding in the car’s boot. Police arrested both of them and seized INR 88,000 cash. Madhukar was later admitted to a hospital for treatment, said Warangal’s Commissioner of Police, Tarun Joshi. Madhukar informed to Police that a large number of senior Maoist cadres are suffering with COVID-19. But the CPI-Maoist is not allowing them to go outside for better treatment. The cadres in exceptional cases are allowed to go outside for getting better treatment, only after their health condition turns worse. Police arrested six militia members of the Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) in the forests of Pusuguppa in Cherla Mandal (administrative sub-division) in in Bhadradri-Kothagudem District of Telangana on September 4, reports Telangana Today. Bhadrachalam Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), Vineeth G said the arrested militia members were from Rampur village of Usuru block in Chhattisgarh State, and were identified as Kunjam Adama, Madivi Joga, Madivi Bandi, Madivi, Unga, Madakam Sannu and a minor boy. During interrogation, they confessed to having been working for the Maoists for the past three years. Telangana Police arrested an Osmania University (OU) PhD student identified as Kota Srinivasa Gowda (38), of Appannapet in Peddapalli District of Telangana, on charges of having a connection with the Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist), from Bauddhanagar in Hyderabad District on October 3, reports telugustop.com. The Telangana Police had received information that Kota Srinivas, who is also the ‘state president’ of Telangana Vidyarthi Sangam (TVS), has links with the Maoists. Four Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) imposters were arrested on the charge of extortion, at Eturnagaram in Mulugu District of Telangana on October 4, reports The New Indian Express. The Eturnagaram Police also seized INR 1.35 million in cash, one fake pistol, an MI television, a mixer grinder, a Karizma bike and four mobile phones from their possession. According to sources, the Police also found four handwritten letters that the gang had forged under the name of Maoist leader Damodar, which were to be distributed among gullible tribals and bigshots. The four persons, who were arrested on November 6, had allegedly planned extortions and robberies in Hyderabad and Yadadri Bhongir, Police said, adding that three country-made firearms along with live rounds, detonators, gas cylinders, drilling machines, letterheads of the Maoist party, mobile phones and other material were seized from them. The arrested persons were identified as P. Srinivas alias Srinanna (45) from Jangaon, V. Naga Mallaiah alias Mallesh (58) from Yadadri Bhongir, E. Around 20 pamphlets relating to the ensuing CPI-Maoist’s 21st annual ‘People’s Liberation Guerrilla Army (PLGA) week’, slated to be observed by the outlawed organisation from December 2 to 8, and 10 rice bags, each weighing 30 kilograms, were recovered from them, Police said. The arrested Maoist sympathisers, whose identities are yet to be ascertained, hail from two remote villages in Usoor Block in Bijapur District. The arrestees were identified as Kursam Sarveshwar Rao, Kursam Ramakrishna, Kursam Venkatesh, Kursam Ganapathi, Mede Papa Rao and Kursam Lakshmaiah of Venkatapuram (Nugur) Mandal (administrative sub-division) and the neighbouring villages of Chhattisgarh State. Disclosing the details at a press conference at Eturunagaram in the district on December 31, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), Officer on Special Duty (OSD), Shoban Kumar said that the arrested had been working as militia members of the CPI Maoists party since 2019. “The CRPF police and Venkatapuram police had nabbed the accused while they were planting the landmine on a path between Tippapuram and Pedd Utlapally villages in the forest areas to kill the security forces who have been combing the forests for the Maoists,” he added.
