On March 5, the Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) through posters have reportedly asked the tribals of Raighar area of Nabarangpur District in Odisha not to hand over their landed properties to Bengali people for agriculture and other purposes, reports sambadenglish.com. Several posters containing the warning of the Maoists surfaced in Haladi, Hatigaon, Kurabeda, Nakatisamada, Mundibeda, Gona and Kundei area of Raighar on March 5, and in the posters, the Maoists claimed that the Indian government had rehabilitated several Bengali people in Raighar area by providing them land deeds. However, the government is yet to provide land deeds to the tribal people, alleged the Maoists. “The tribals should not hand over their landed properties to Bengali people for agriculture and other purposes,” said the posters. Certain legislations have been passed in 2006 to provide land deeds to tribal people residing near the forests. Suspected Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) posters were found hanging on the main gate of Jhadbeda Tribal High School in Jashipur area in Mayurbhanj District of Odisha on April 15, reports The New Indian Express. While one of the posters read that the Maoists wanted the Government to provide basic facilities to all the villages under Niunty Gram Panchayat (village level local self-Government institution), and make positive changes in the society, it also warned that in case the Government fails to do so, they will take things to their hand and start the facilities. The text was written in Odia and signed by RK Magi, suspected to be a Maoist. The second poster mentioned that instead of rendering public service, sarpanch (head of the Panchayat) the said gram panchayat only took interest in doing contractual works. “People who have changed their religion from Hinduism to Christianity, will be killed,” the poster further warned.
