Security Forces (SFs) destroyed a Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) camp in Pujariguda forest at Bonda Ghat area in Malkangiri District of Odisha on January 16, reports Odishabytes. As per the report, a joint team of the District Voluntary Force (DVF) and Special Operation Group (SOG) personnel conducted a search operation on January 13 on the basis of the intelligence input about Maoists having set up a camp inside the forest. The Superintendent of Police (SP), Khilari Rishikesh Dnyandeo said, “During the search operation on January 16, the Maoists hiding inside the forest suddenly opened fire on us. An exchange of fire ensued and the Maoists fled the area. The security personnel later busted a camp inside the forest and seized several articles. A fresh search operation has begun in the forest to track down the rebels.”

An exchange of fire took place between cadres of Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) and Security Forces (SFs) in the Sumerbandh area under Phiringia Police Station limits in Kandhamal District of Odisha on January 18, reports The Pioneer. On receiving inputs about the presence of Maoists of the KKBN (Kalahandi-Kandhamal-Boudh-Nayagarh) Division in the forest, Special Operations Group (SOG) personnel launched a combing operation. But spotting the SOG personnel, the Maoists opened fire, to which the police retaliated leading to a gun-battle. However, there were no reports of any casualties from both sides. Following the gunfight, the SFs destroyed a Maoist camp and have launched a combing operation in the area to trace the fleeing Maoists.

An intelligence input indicates the presence of around 20 cadres of Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) in Niyamgiri forests bordering Rayagada and Kalahandi Districts of Odisha, reports The New Indian Expresson January 26. As per the report, the Maoists under ‘Rayagada Area Committee (RAC)’ of the CPI-Maoist have been observed moving in the bordering areas of the said Districts. Following the input, Police personnel of Rayagada and Central Paramilitary Force (CRPF) troopers has initiated anti-Maoist operations in the forest and combing operation has also been intensified in Kalyansinghpur village in Rayagada District. Further, Security Forces (SFs) in Kalahandi District have been alerted over the possibility of Maoists sneaking into the District from the Rayagada side.

The Security Forces (SFs) neutralised a camp of Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) after an exchange of fire with Maoists in Rayagada District of Odisha on January 26, reports The Times of India. According to Superintendent of Police (SP), Saravana Vivek M., on receiving a tip-off about the presence of the Maoists at a road construction site in Niyamgiri forest, a joint team of SFs launched a combing operation in the area. On seeing the SFs, the Maoists detonated three Improvised Electronic Devices (IEDs). The SFs escaped the explosion and retaliated leading to a gun-battle and subsequently destroying the Maoist camp. No injuries were reported from both sides in the incident. The SFs seized a huge cache of ammunition and other material from the camp.

A Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) camp was destroyed by Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel during combing operations in a forest near Bhainsadani village under Boden Police Station limits in Nuapada District of Odisha on January 30, reports The Pioneer. The CRPF personnel recovered two pistols, 32 gelatin bombs, 27 detonators, bullets and gun powder from the spot. As per the report, acting on a tip-off that the Maoists had stockpiled arms and ammunition in the said camp, the 216 Battalion of CRPF personnel initiated a combing operation in the area following which they came across the rebel camp. The Maoists, however, managed to escape the spot after seeing the CRPF team.

A Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) camp was busted by the personnel of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) in a forest under Chandrapur Police limits in Rayagada District of Odisha on February 1, reports Pragativadi. According to sources, the CRPF personnel of the 8th Battalion were on a combing operation in Chandrapur forest in the District when they identified a camp near Andhra Pradesh-Odisha Border (AOB). On search, the security personnel seized nine guns, 15 detonators, 11 gelatine sticks and eight rounds of live bullets.

Arms and ammunitions have been recovered from Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) hideouts over a recent period of time in joint operations by the Odisha Police, Border Security Force (BSF), CoBRA Battalion of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), and Andhra Pradesh Police in Swabhiman Anchal (earlier known as cutoff area) of Malkangiri District of Odisha, reports The Pioneer on February 8. The seizures include one light machine gun, three INSAS (Indian Small Arms System) assault rifle, three carbine Sten guns, 1 Self Loading Rifle (SLR) rifle, a .303 rifle, one pistol, 202 rounds of 5.6 mm ammunition, 59 rounds of 7.62 ammunition, 42 rounds of 9mm ammunition, 4 Light Machine Gun (LMG) magazines, eight INSAS magazines, two SLR magazines, six carbine magazines, one 303 magazine, two VHF set cum scanner, one optical sight and a tiffin bomb along with explosive. This was one of the biggest counter-Leftwing extremist operations in the area that was underway to provide security cover for road construction in the region, which was opposed by the Maoists, informed Director General of Police (DGP), Abhay. “We suspect that the arms and ammunitions were hidden by Maoists of the Andhra-Odisha Border Special Zonal Committee (AOBSZC). Combing and area domination exercises have been intensified further in the region to recover more such Maoist hideouts, if any,” the DGP added.

An exchange of fire took place between Security Forces (SFs) and cadres of Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) in the Bondapada-Sambalpur forest area under Mudulipada Police Station limits in Malkangiri District of Odisha on February 16, reports The Pioneer. There were, however, no reports of any casualty in the incident. As per the report, acting on input about the movement of 20 to 30 armed Maoists in the said forest, a joint team of District Voluntary Force (DVF) and Special Operations Group (SOG) of Odisha Police launched a combing operation. On spotting the SFs, the Maoists opened fire leading to a gun-battle. The rebels backtracked and managed to escape into the dense forest leaving behind their belongings and articles. The SFs recovered Maoist uniforms, kit bags, mobile phone and other articles were from the encounter site.

Police busted a Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) camp during a combing operation in forest near Ampabali village under Pottangi Police Station limits in Koraput District of Odisha on February 23, reports The Pioneer. Based on a tipoff about the movement of the Maoists in the region, a joint team of the District Voluntary Force (DVF), Special Operations Group (SOG) and the Border Security Force (BSF) had launched a combing operation in Panabadi, Kamalabandh, Bailguda and Urlapadu area in the District, bordering Andhra Pradesh. During the search operation, the joint team recovered a gun, a rifle, hand grenades, electronic detonators, bulletproof metal plate, and explosives along with several items used by the Maoists. The items were recovered from three drums which were buried under the earth. Police suspected that the camp was being used by the Nandpur Area Committee of Koraput Division of the CPI-Maoist.

From these seized materials, we suspect that these articles were intended to be used against the innocent tribals and our security forces.
