On January 12, police neutralized a weapons-making unit belonging to the Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) in Rourkela and arrested five Maoists, including three women. According to The Hindu, police arrested a person at Khammam in Andhra Pradesh on January 11 and recovered spare parts of rifles from him. After his confession, a Maoist den in Rourkela was raided. A laptop, party literature, CDs and parts that could be assembled into over a dozen rifles, were seized. Police sources said that the top leadership of Maoists frequented the gun-making unit.

Security force personnel arrested three Maoists, including two women, following a two-hour long encounter, which ensued when SFs raided a Maoist hideout close to the Andhra Pradesh border in the forests near Karamguda village under Chitrakonda Police station in Malkangiri district on January 30, reports Pioneer. Police sources informed Pioneer that 230 rounds were fired by SF personnel and 50 by the Maoists adding that the arrested Maoists were identified as Ramesh, Laxmi and Magama. They were of Telugu origin and literature written in Telugu was recovered from their possession. Large quantity of explosives, a solar phone, electronic detonators and fuse wire were also recovered from their hideout.

The official identified as Trilochan Kanhara was working as a field assistant in the Kishinda Forest Division and was posted at Badabahal forest, had confessed that he had links with Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist). S Devdutt Singh, Superintendent of Police Sambalpur said that a gun and four live cartridges were also recovered from the forest official. "The gun recovered from Kanhara's possession is believed to belong to one Pushpa, a woman naxalite active in the area bordering Jharkhand", Singh said.

On July 7, police arrested four sympathisers of the Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) from Jharapur under Kuchinda sub-division and Ranigula village of Sambalpur district, reports New Indian Express. They were identified as Tapan Naik of Jharapur village and Mukunda Naik, Santosh Munda and Bimal Topno of Ranigula village. Police said they were providing shelter to the Maoists and also storing their arms and ammunition. Police claimed to have received leads regarding the killing of three civilians by the Maoists on June 21 following the arrests. New Indian Express reports that the arrest followed the rescue of three young tribal women from a hideout of the outfit in the same area. As the Maoists are observing the People's Liberation Guerrilla Army week beginning from December 2, police have intensified their patrolling and combing operations in the district as well as in the neighboring Koraput and Rayagada districts. The police had sealed the State's adjoining borders with Chhattisgarh and Andhra Pradesh as they were apprehending Maoist violence during the PLGA week.
