A ‘sub zonal’ commander and three other cadres of Jharkhand Prastuti Committee (JPC) were arrested on January 7 and remanded in judicial custody on January 8, reports The Times of India. All four of them were dressed in camouflage uniform when Police got hold of them at Dulsulma village. Police recovered two country-made weapons and 17 sim cards along with five cell phones from them. Five other uniforms were recovered from beneath a banana shaft. Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Ajay Kumar identified the four as Rang Bahadur Singh, sub zonal commander, Nand Deo Prasad, Indradeo Singh and Sanjay Singh. All of them in the age group of 24 to 27.

A sub-zonal ‘commander’ of Tritiya Prastuti Committee (TPC) was arrested from Palamu District's Nawadih area when he, along with a companion, was trying to overtake Congress Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) KN Tripathy's car on January 8, said Palamu Superintendent of Police (SP) N K Singh, reports The Times of India. Ajay's companion Dhaneshwar was also detained by Police. One AK-47 was recovered from Ajay's possession, he added. Singh claimed the recovered gun belongs to the Police department. The arrest of the sub zonal commander Ajay will prove to be a major setback to the TPC. According to the SP, Ajay was wanted in a dozen cases of theft and extortion. He had been to jail in the past. Police sources said it was Ajay who had threatened Congress MLA K N Tripathy with dire consequences two months back if he dares to venture into Nawadih under Chainpur block.

A Jharkhand Sangharsh Janmukti Morcha (JSJM) cadre Naresh Ganjhu, who was involved in January 14 attack at a Central Coalfields Limited (CCL) colliery in Latehar District, was arrested during a raid at Chetar village in Chandwa Police Station area of the District on January 15, reports The Telegraph. Two .303 rifles and a countrymade pistol were recovered from him. Latehar Superintendent of Police (SP) Michael Raj said that these rifles were looted from the Police in the past. He further informed that Ganjhu was part of the group that had attacked at CCL’s Tetariakhand colliery. Over a dozen extremists armed with a carbine, rifles and sticks had manhandled the colliery employees and torched a Haulpak, an off-highway mining truck, parked on the workshop premises.

Gumla District Police arrested a Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) cadre on January 17 from Baghima village in the District, reports The Times of India. He was engaged in making posters and pasting them on the walls asking people to boycott the Republic Day. The arrested Maoist has been identified as Arbind Kindo, a member of Maoist ‘area commander’ Khudi Munda's squad, said Gumla Sub-divisional Police Officer (SDPO) D K Pande. Kindo is a resident of Jena village under under the Palkot Police Station, he added. One country-made pistol, four 3.15 bore bullets, two mobile sets, one motorcycle and a copy of poster containing a call for boycott of the Republic Day have been seized from him, he said.

Four improvised explosive devices (IEDs) were recovered in a Gomia forest in Bokaro District during a joint operation on January 20, reports The Times of India. A joint team of the District Police and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) recovered the explosives, which were planted inside the Banchatra forest in Gomia allegedly by Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) cadres. Two of the three IEDs were 3kg each while the other was more powerful and weighed about 6kg. A Communist Party of India-Maoists (CPI-Maoist) ‘zonal commander’, identified as Mukhlal alias Mochhu alias Bhagat, carrying a cash prize of INR 500,000 on his head, was arrested from Jumla village under Silli Police Station limits in Ranchi District on October 11, reports The Times of India. Jharkhand Police launched a joint operation with Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) after they got information about Mukhlal, and another ‘zonal commander’, Gautam Dhara Ram Mohan, and 20 other rebels meeting at Jumla in Silli Police Station area. Police said Mohan and other rebels escaped after a short exchange of fire while Bhagat was arrested and some arms were recovered from his possession. Bhagat is wanted in more than 100 cases lodged against him in Ranchi and Bokaro Districts. However, a source in the Police department said some senior officers were not convinced with the identity of the Maoist. "The man is being interrogated. In such cases we cross check the identity before making any announcement," said a Police officer who requested anonymity.

The operation was carried out by Commando Battalion for Resolute Action (CoBRA) troops of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) along with Jharkhand ‘Jaguars’ Police unit. The seized items include 1,745 detonators, three gas cylinder based Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) of 50 kg each, a 5kg cane bomb, 400 kg of urea mixed with petrol, 10 kg of gun powder, nitro sulphide weighing approximately 1 kg, two large cutter machines, two drill machines, 400 syringes, tool boxes, electronic gadgets and 200 pressure cookers used to prepare IEDs.
