Police arrested two cadres of Tritiya Sammelan Prastuti Committee (TSPC), a splinter group ofCommunist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) including a woman along with levy and other documents in Latehar District of Jharkhand on January 2, reports United News of India. The duo was identified as Kamlesh Yadav and Priyanka Devi alias Sushma Devi, wifeof TSPC ‘commander’ Rakesh Ganjhu. A sum of INR 24,300 collected as a levy, bank passbook, ATM card, Naxal[Left Wing Extremist, LWE] literature,notebook, branded watch and Nepali Currency have been recovered from their possession.

The cadres of People’s Liberation Front of India (PLFI), a splinter group of Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist),put up a poster warning ‘Police informers’ and businessmen of dire consequences if they pass on information about the group to Police or refuse to oblige the demands of PLFI at Gudri Bazar in Lohardaga District of Jharkhand on January 13, reports The Pioneer. The poster urged the local masses to unite against ‘oppressive forces’ and threatened industrialists to face the PLFI’s wrath if they continue to exploit the poor class. Through the poster, the PLFI also asked Police ‘not to conduct fake encounters and refrain from targeting innocent villagers.’

A Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) cadre, identified as Nazir Munda (28) was arrested by Police at Chandni Chowk on Kharsawan-Kuchai road in Seraikela Kharsawan District of Jharkhand on January 27, reports The Telegraph. Nazir was arrested while on his way to put up posters for the CPI-Maoist in Adityapur and Gamharia localities in the District. “The content in the posters that Nazir was carrying were written against the farm law and those posters were supposed to be fixed along the Tata-Kandra Road in Adityapur and Gamharia,” said Police officials adding that the Police also recovered over a dozen posters from his possession.

Police has arrested three cadres of the Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) from Urmal under Chauka Police Station area in Seraikela Kharsawan District of Jharkhand on April 12, reports UNI. The arrested Maoists identified as Sujeet Kumar Munda, Matindra Nath Manjhi and Chaburam Munda, belonged to the squad led by wanted Maoist ‘commander’ Maharaj Pramanik. Police recovered Naxal [Left Wing Extremism, LWE] literature, four mobiles, bike and INR 5,000 collected as ‘levy’ (extortion money) from their possession. Superintendent of Police (SP), Md Arshi said that a team of the District Police along with Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) launched a joint operation in various areas of Seraikela Kharsawan District to arrest Maharaj Pramanik. The SP said that during the operations first Sujeet was arrested and based on his information two others were arrested.

Police issued an alert in Jharkhand in view of the Bharat Bandh called by CPI-Maoist on April 26, reports Prabhat Khabar The Police headquarters has received information that Naxals may carry out violent incidents, attack on Police camps or patrolling parties or killing of Special Police Officer’s (SPO’s) during the bandh and railway tracks, bridges, government establishments or development sites can be attacked. Posters have also been pasted at some places in Murhu in Khunti District of Jharkhand by Naxals before the bandh.

Security Forces (SFs) arrested six People's Liberation Front of India (PLFI), a splinter group of the Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) identified as Manka Shaluki alias Etwa Shaluki, Sanika Bodra, Sudarshan Soe, Shiva Kumar Bodra, Debra Hembram and Sanjay Bodra during a search operation under Tebo Police Station limits in West Singhbhum District of Jharkhand on May 1, reports PrabhatKhaba. Chaibasa Police of Jharkhand received specific information about Hari Singh Sandi Purti, ‘area commander’ of PLFI with his cadres were on the lookout for a major criminal incident. However, Hari Singh Sandi Purti and some members of his squad managed to escape during the search operation by Police. Police recovered one desi carbine and 10 bullets with PLFI pamphlet and levy collection receipt from the arrested PLFI militants. The arrested PLFI cadres admitted their involvement in the burning of the hive of the company constructing the road between Baihatu to Surbuda in Toklo Police Station area and the shooting of a man at Babu Brick Bhatta in Chakradharpur Police Station area and assaulting the labourers working there for levy on a brick kiln in Karaikela Police Station area.

Around 10-12 Naxals [Left Wing Extremism (LWE)] have set ablaze one JCB and one tractor parked at a construction site of a bridge over Binja Nala at Lamkinand in Tokisood village of Patratu Police Station in Ramgarh District of Jharkhand on June 5, reports PrabhatKhabar. Two labourers identified as Raghunandan Prasad Mahato, a resident of Giridih District and Bhunesh Ram, a resident of Chauparan in Hazaribagh District were abused and injured by the Naxals and then fired in the air. Many labourers saved their lives by hiding in nearby forests. Naxals gave a pamphlet to a labourer identified as Munshi Lagnu Mahli to be handed over to their contracter. The engineers of the construction company said that no organization threatened them to stop work or seek levy. Police team conducted a search operation in the forests of Tokisood, Binja, and Chhapar in search of Naxals without much success after this incident.

Police said, late on Saturday (June 5) night a group of six armed TPC cadres reached on the spot where a bridge is being constructed on Chotka river and assaulted the workers, fired five rounds in the air, set the two vehicles on fire and finally left behind pamphlets on the spot in which the outfit had asked to stop the work and remove the camp. A source in Police said, the bridge is being constructed on the river by the special division at INR 40 million and for the want of ‘levy’ the incident has been executed by the outfit.

Police arrested eight cadres of the Peoples' Liberation Front of India (PLFI), a splinter group of the Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist), including one ‘area commander’, in separate search operations in West Singhbhum District of Jharkhand, reports Prabhat Khabar on June 24. Acting on information, Chaibasa Police and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel led by Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) of Chakradharpur jointly conducted a joint operation and arrested ‘area commander’ Suman Singh Ganjhu alias Suman Singh (25), Ramaye Boypai (45), Deva Singh Ganjhu alias Chepo (45), Dashrath Singh (38), and Guru Charan Khandait alias Bela (21) from the forests around Pansuwan Dam under Sonuwa Police Station area in West Singhbhum District. Deputy superintendent of police (DSP), Dilip Khalko said that Superintendent of Police (SP), Chaibasa got secret information that Roi Kadulna alias Sukhram Dasta, the ‘area commander’ of banned PLFI Naxalite [Left Wing Extremist, LWE] organization has been roaming in the forest of Chaibasa and the border area of Khunti District. A joint team of Chaibasa District Force, Khunti District Force and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) 94th Battalion was formed and during the raid, two persons were arrested from the forest in the border area of Chaibasa and Khunti Districts. Superintendent of Police (SP), Ashutosh Shekhar said that on November 1-night, information was received from Hutar about the arrival of some militants in the bike, and on the basis of information, the Police intensified intensive vehicle checking between Chandapara and Tumna under Karra Police Station area. On seeing the Police, three persons coming in a bike from Hutar's side started trying to run away, however, the Police managed to arrest Guru, a resident of Bakaspur Upar Toli, and a case has been registered in this regard at Karra Police Station. The twin blasts took place at about 2 am between Lotapahar and Sonua stations of Chakradharpur division of South Eastern Railway (SER) in the West Singhbhum District. The eastern regional bureau (ERB) of the banned CPI-Maoist outfit claimed responsibilities of the blasts The Maoist cadres also put-up banners at the explosion site protesting arrest of the top Maoist couple. The explosions were planned by the outfit to observe five-day protest and day-long nationwide bandh (general shutdown) call over recent arrests of top Maoist leader Prashant Bose aka Kisan Da (75) and his wife Sheela Marandi aka Shoba. The banned Naxalite [Left Wing Extremist, LWE] organization, CPI-Maoist, has made Anganwadi Centre, School Bhawan and Panchayat Bhawan as its recruitment centre. Through the posters, the CPI-Maoist Janamukti Guerrilla Sena has told Anganwadi Center, School Building and Panchayat Bhawan as their recruitment center. The Maoists have written that people should submit their applications in school buildings, panchayat buildings and Anganwadi centers to be admitted to PLGA. Seven Naxalites [Left Wing Extremists, LWEs], including the ‘supremo’ of Jharkhand Kranti Morcha (JKM), a lesser know splinter group of the Jharkhand Jan Mukti Parishad (JJMP), which is a splinter group of the Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist), were arrested by Police from Patki Forest under Sadar Police Station limits in Latehar District of Jharkhand on December 14, reports bhaskar.com. On the basis of secret information received by Superintendent of Police (SP), Anjani Anjan, the seven LWEs including the ‘supremo’ of the organization have been arrested from Patki Forest of Sadar Police Station area. The SP told that for the last one month, contractors, traders and brick kiln owners were being threatened to kill in Latehar District by Shankar Ram alias Saurabh by forming an organization called JKM. Extortion was being demanded. The Police was keeping an eye on it, and eventually, the entire organization came together in the hands of the Police. The raiding team arrested two uniformed cadres, including a woman, on a motorcycle from near Patki Forest, with loaded pistols, live bullets, Naxalite cards, mobile phones. They were identified as Saurabh and Zarina Khatoon alias Haseena Khatoon alias Haseena. Five other cadres of the organization Upendra Ram alias Om Prakash, Vikas Kumar alias Monu Kumar, Pradeep Pal, Amit Kumar and Sameer Lakra were also arrested with loaded pistol and live bullets from Kope village under Manika Police Station limits. Saurav used to work in Maoist’s splinter organization JJMP in the past. He has been to jail before, and after coming out of jail, he started organizing the organization by intimidating him and getting involved in the work of collecting the ‘levy’ (extortion money). SP, Anjan said that Monu has already been jailed from Hussainabad in the Arms Act case. At the same time, the arrested Om Prakash has been an active member of the Tritiya Prastuti Committee (TPC), a splinter group of the CPI-Maoist, in the past. A case has been registered in this case under the Arms Act at Latehar Police Station. Four pieces loaded country pistol, eight pieces 315 live bullets, eight pieces JKM handwritten form, 28 pieces JKM leaflet, nine pieces mobile phone, five pieces bag, one piece motorcycle, three pieces Pied paints, three pieces of pied shirt, two pieces of diary, several items of daily use have been recovered from the possession of the arrested LWEs.

Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) cadres shot dead a forest department scribe, identified as Boyram Lugun (25) was a resident of Paluhasa village, on the charge of being a ‘police informer’ in Ambrai Paluhasa under Goilkera Police Station limits in West Singhbhum District of Jharkhand on December 28, reports prabhatkhabar.com. Lugun, who supervised the work in forest department, was brought near the Goilkera-Chaibasa road and was shot dead. Maoists also left pamphlets at the spot, in which they (Maoists), have called Boyram, the Special Police Officer (SPO), an ‘informer’ of the Police. At the same time, in the pamphlet, a warning has been given to drive out rangers, foresters, forest mafia and contractors from the forest. West Singhbhum Superintendent of Police (SP), Ajay Linda said, the armed squad of Maoists also set ablaze the Joseph Cyril Bamford (JCB) excavator of a contractor working for the Forest Department in Paluhasa Forest. According to the information, excavation was being done by JCB by the Forest Department in Paluhasa. The Maoist squad reached there and captured scribe Boyram, the driver of JCB, and the helper. After questioning, the driver and helper were released.
