Security Forces (SFs) arrested two hardcore Maoist cadres along with arms and explosives from a hideout at Gurania village in East Champaran District on January 1, reports The Indian Express. Acting on a tip off, the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and the Special Task Force (STF) jointly raided a hideout and arrested the Maoists duo, identified as Manoj Kumar Agrawal alias Agrawal ji, and Baitha, Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP), Operation, Sanjay Singh said. Two country-made pistols, two live ammunition, two mobile phones, a detonator and Maoist literature were recovered from the arrested ultras' possession, the ASP said, adding that both were wanted in about half a dozen cases of Maoist violence.

A Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) cadre was shot dead in an encounter with the Security Forces (SFs) at Pathakchak village under Sikandara Police Station in Jamui District of Bihar on January 5, reports The Times of India. Superintendent of Police (SP) Jitendra Rana said that the SFs comprising the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and the District Police shot dead the Maoist during an encounter, who was yet to be identified. The SFs had launched a search operation in the village after being tipped off about gathering of the Maoists who fired on the forces prompting retaliation by the men in uniform. The remaining Maoists managed to flee in the deep forest, Rana said, adding several weapons were seized from the spot. The body has been brought to the District headquarters for autopsy.

Security Forces on January 9 seized weapons from a hideout of the Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) in the Nawra village under Nauhatta Police Station area in Bihar’s Rohtas District, a Police officer said, reports The Hindu. Acting on a tip off, Security Forces comprising Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Special Task Force (STF) and District Police launched a comb and search operation in the village and recovered the weapons hidden in a cave, district Superintendent of Police (SP) Vikas Burman said. Around 70 hand grenades and 25 live pipe bombs were recovered in a joint operation launched by Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and Bihar Police in Munger and Jamui Districts on January 21, reports The Hindu. Acting on a tip-off about the presence of several Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) cadres, Police recovered the huge cache of arms during the operation, Jamui SP Jitendera Rana said. Materials used for making bombs have been recovered along with live pipe bombs, he said. The Maoists, however, managed to flee. An exchange of fire between security forces and the Maoists took place before the cache of arms was recovered in Harni jungle area, the SP said.

District Superintendent of Police (SP) P Varun Kumar Sinha confirmed the incident and said that two members of the Maoist group engaged in encounter were also injured in Police firing. The SP further said that an INSAS rifle which was looted from the Railway Protection Force (RPF), Jamalpur recently, along with detonators, 100 live cartridges, Police uniforms and Maoist literature were seized by the Police from their hideouts.

One Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) cadre was injured and nine Maoists, including the injured cadre, were arrested as Police destroyed a Maoist training camp at Kandani village in Munger District on February 4, reports The Times of India. Munger District Superintendent of Police (SP) Varun Kumar Sinha on February 5 said about 250 Maoists were being imparted training at the camp when Police approached the camp. As Maoist opened fire, Police retaliated. After demolishing the Maoist training camp, the Police seized 506 rounds of live cartridges, gelatins, transistors, allopathic medicines, cosmetics, liquid solutions, inner garments of women in huge quantities, more than one hundred Police uniforms, Maoist literature including one titled 'Essential Notes' containing processes of manufacturing explosives, cotton bags, sticker of Police offices and voters identity cards. The injured Maoist was identified as Lalita Devi who was leading the Maoist attack.

Security Forces seized 3,400 kilograms of ammonium nitrate, used for making Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) and explosives along with detonators during an anti-Naxal [Left Wing Extremism (LWE)] operation in Bihar’s Rohtas District, reports The Hindu on February 18. The operation was conducted by Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) along with State Police forces in the Rudrapur forests of the District. “Numerous bags weighing 3,400-kgs of ammonium nitrate were seized during an operation in the district. Also, 700 electronic detonators were seized,” a senior official here said. Thirteen large bundles of iron wire mesh were also seized during the same operation, the official added.

The SP further said the District Police was tipped off about the entry of about 300 armed Maoists from Giridih and Jamui Districts into Nawada three days ago where they had put up posters warning the local people against casting their votes in the Lok Sabha. A top Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) cadre, identified as Shambhuji alias Sunil Kumar alias Lambuji, a member of ‘special area committee’ of Bihar, Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh, was arrested along with three Maoists from Gandhi Maidan Police Station area of Patna District along with three accomplices on September 23, reports Zee News. The three others were identified as Sanjay Kumar, Sunil Singh and Lakshaman Yadav. Shambhuji was involved in the massacre of 16 Third Preparatory Committee (TPC) cadres in Jharkhand on August 8, 2014. Paswan, who ran one of these eight factories, has been arrested while the owners of seven other units managed to flee. As many as 19 automatic pistols, two magazines, two crude bombs and a large quantity of equipments used for processing illicit weapons were seized from these factories. In a joint operation conducted, Bihar Police and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) arrested an alleged Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) operative, identified as Ram Babu Prasad, from his house at Narayanpur village under Rajepur Police Station limits in East Champaran District on November 22, reports Economic Times. "We recovered a pistol, a few cartridges, Maoist literature and levy papers from Prasad. He is wanted in several cases of violence in East Champaran, Sheohar, Muzaffarpur and other districts," Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP), Operations, Raju Kumar said. The ASP said Prasad was in jail for some time and came out two months ago, after which he was given the task to strengthen the Maoist network and extort levy imposed by CPI-Maoist on businessmen, contractors and commercial organisations. "Prasad had become very active in extorting levy. We got information about him and were keeping a tab on him for sometime," the ASP added.

The Police raided Sohati village and arrested eight Maoists, identified as Ramchandra Paswan, Dilip Paswan, Rakesh Paswan, Babulal Paswan, Omprakash Sahni, Brajesh Paswan, Nilesh Sahni and Manju Devi, with arms and explosives, besides communication devices, from them, the Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) (Operations) Rana Brajesh said. The seized arms and explosives included 25 detonators, empty magazines of pistol, three motorcycles, a dozen mobile phones and Naxal [Left Wing Extremism (LWE)] literature, the ASP said. Some of these materials were recovered from the clinic of a doctor Ved Prakash, who was absconding, ASP said, adding that his clinic has been sealed for now. ASP said in all 20 suspected Maoists were detained for questioning out of which eight have been arrested.
