The Hindu reported that Police arrested two Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) cadres after an encounter in the Kachwar village of Rohtas District in the night of January 5. Acting on a tip-off, Police cordoned off an area at Kachwar where the extremists had assembled to plan a crime, they said. On seeing the Policemen, the Maoists fired leading to the encounter, in which both the sides exchanged few rounds of fire. 11 detonators, two kg of fuse wire, naxal literature besides a medical kit were recovered from the incident site, Police said. Meanwhile, IANS on January 6 quoted Rohtas Superintendent of Police Vikas Vaibhav as saying, "Fourteen suspected Maoists were arrested by a police team from Kachwar village."

Two Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) cadres suspected to have been involved in an attack on a Bihar Military Police (BMP) camp were arrested from Munger District on January 13, Police said, reports PTI. Acting on a tip-off, Police raided a house at Paharpur-Kharagpur village and arrested the extremists. The arrestees were suspected to haven been involved in the attack on a BMP camp at Akbarnagar in neighbouring Bhagalpur District on January 10 in which four BMP personnel were injured, the Police said. The Maoists had looted four SLRs, two machine guns, hand grenades, besides several rounds of ammunition during the operation.

The explosives were found in a bus, coming from neighbouring Rohtas District and heading for Ranchi, parked at the Ramabad bus stand under Town Police Station of the District. The detonators were kept in 50 boxes of 25 explosives each. “On being tipped off, police swung into action early on Thursday morning and seized around 1,250 detonators from a black bag in a bus parked at a bus stand. The possibility that the consignment was meant for the Naxalites [left wing extremists] could not be ruled out going by the nature and quantities of explosives seized,” said Nishant Kumar Tiwary, Superintendent of Police (Aurangabad).

Nadaul is situated on Patna-Gaya rail route of East-Central Railway. "Maoists first forced railway officials on duty in the cabin on the outer signal of Nadaul railway station to leave the place. They then blew up the railway track," Patna Railway Superintendent of Police Jitendra Rana said, adding, the blast was a low-intensity one that only damaged three concrete railway sleepers. The incident disrupted rail traffic on the route, he added.

While three Maoists were arrested from Mahuar village under Haspura Police station in Aurangabad District, about 125 kilometres from State capital Patna, the fourth Maoist, the ‘zonal commander’, was arrested from a village under Bikram Police station in Patna District. The three arrested in Aurangabad were identified as Duryodhan, Awadhesh and Rajesh Kumar, mentioned The Hindu. "Two days ago Gaya Police received information about a training camp of Maoists in Hazaribagh District. They could have planned a destructive incident on the basis of this information a special team was formed," said Gaya Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Amit Lodh. After a fierce gunfight that continued for two hours, Security Forces finally overpowered the Maoists and destroyed three of their camps. "When the team went there, Maoists opened fire. About 150 rounds of fire were opened and after that the forces retaliated by opening fire on the Maoists. They crawled up the mountain and chased the Maoists, and then blasted three of their camps. Police have received huge cache of arms and ammunitions," the SSP added.

Arshad was arrested by a team of Ahmedabad city crime branch officials, in a joint operation with Bihar Police, from Chhapra District on July 17. "We brought Arshad to Ahmedabad on Sunday [July 18]. His name had surfaced during Saiyad's questioning. Saiyad was found in possession of a country-made revolver and 17 cartridges. Arshad had supplied the weapon to him. We are probing his Guajrat footprint and connection with other SIMI members at the moment," said a senior crime branch official. According to investigators, Arshad is former state president of SIMI and was in proximity with a number of senior leaders and operatives. One of the arrested Maoists, Taro Mandal alias Tarkeshwar Mandal, is an ‘area commander’ was wanted in over two- dozen cases of violence in various Districts of Bihar. He was reportedly involved in former Munger Superintendent of Police (SP) KC SurendraBabu's killing (January 2005), Jhajha railway station attack, attack on Akbarnagar Police camp, blast in several Government buildings and nearly 35 incidents of Maoist violence, Police said. "A notorious Maoist Taro Mandal alias Tarkeshwar Mandal aliasShankar Rai, a resident of Chilki Khand village in Charka Pathar District has been arrested. Along with him Ranjeet Rai alias Suresh Rai from Kharagpur District has been arrested. Taro Mandal has been a wanted in more than two dozen cases," Banka SP, Shyam Kumar said. Two firearms, 45 live cartridges of bullets, cash a motorcycle and pamphlets related to Maoist activities were seized from them, Police said. "Taro Mandal was the prime accused in setting many vehicles on fire during the recently concluded assembly elections. He had fixed three landmines in Bihar region to disturb the poll process. But acting on the information provided by the accused and other intelligence he could not trigger the blast," said Kumar, adds Sify.com. On getting information that cadres of the Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) have planned to attack the divisional jail, the State Police raided several places and arrested six Maoists from Rampur area in Gaya District on December 25, reports PTI. The six cadres were identified as 'zonal commander' Bhushan Sharma, 'regional commander' Suresh Yadav alias Chandan ji, 'area commanders' Jainandan Paswan, Jitendra Singh and Arjun Paswan and secretary of the outfit's ‘zonal sub-committee’ Yugal Yadav. The arrested Maoist leaders were involved in the killing of a station house officer Mithilesh Prasad in the District and 45 other Maoist related incidents in the State and Jharkhand, Police said. One AK-56 rifle, two regular carbines looted from Police, two country-made pistols, 249 live cartridges besides INR 59, 000 in cash and seven mobile phones were seized from them, Police added.
