A joint team of Army and Police busted a hideout of the militants in Chajla forest area of Mendhar tehsil (revenue unit) in Poonch District and recovered large quantity of arms, ammunition and explosives on February 14, reports Daily Excelsior. Recoveries included one Pika Machine Gun with 90 belted rounds, one AK-74 rifle, one AK-47 rifle, two UBGL launchers, 22 UBGL grenades, two Chinese grenades, one I Com radio set and antenna and 500 rounds of AK-47. Later, SFs also undertook search operations in Chajla forest area but the militants remained untraced.
Reliable sources told Daily Excelsior that Shahid Ahmad, a resident of Memander in Shopian was arrested by the Police from Ban Toll Plaza at Nagrota on JammuSrinagar National Highway this morning (March 26), when he was fleeing from Jammu in a Tavera taxi car to Kashmir. Another accused Mohammad Asif, resident of Shopian has been arrested by the Police from Shopian on a tip off given by Jammu Police to their counterparts in Shopian. The main accused Amir Hussain, resident of Hallpora, Ratnipora of Shopian is absconding along with AK47 rifle and 30 rounds. Sources said that Army on May 20 evening noticed movement of a group of 45 militants infiltrating in Nowgam sector near Sangam Post. They had cut fence and were trying to sneak in when Army noticed their movement. The troops challenged them leading to a fierce gun battle in which two militants and two Army men were killed. Two militants and a soldier were killed on May 21 during the operation. After the operation, Army has been put on heightened alert along the LoC in North Kashmir after inputs that Pakistani troops are preparing for Border Action Team (BAT) action. Read less...
