The Karnal Police on January 18 claimed to have recovered 4,000 cartridges stuffed in eight parcels from Malwa Express train, according to Times of India. The parcels bore the seal of the office of Karnal District magistrate and according to railway records, the sender has been identified as an ammunition dealer of Karnal. Preliminary investigations suggest that the consignment was meant for use by anti-social elements during the Uttar Pradesh assembly polls. "Prima facie the consignment appears to have been made by forging the documents. But still we have sent our teams to the office of district magistrate, Karnal, for further verification. At the same time, teams have also been sent to Meerut to ascertain the details of person for whom the consignment was meant. We are also trying to verify the details of person mentioned in the records of the parcel booking office,'' Hardeep Singh Doon, Superintendent of Police (Railways), said. However, the Police deny it being a genuine supply saying that under the law, cartridges in such large quantity cannot be supplied.

on March 22 a joint team comprising personnel from the Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS), Bangalore, and Delhi Special Police searched Bhatkal town (Karnataka) to identify the house which is presumably laden with huge quantities of explosive material including RDX, with help from four terror suspects. The four terror suspects include Tadiyandavide Nasir, prime accused in the July 25, 2008 Bangalore serial blasts, and three unidentified accused in Delhi police custody. The explosives from the Bhatkal dump are believed to have been used in the blasts at Chinnaswamy Stadium in 2010 and the Delhi High Court blast in September last year, besides several other strikes across the country. Sources said that there is a fear that the explosives have been hidden in Bhatkal by absconding terror masterminds Yasin Bhatkal, Indian Mujahideen (IM) founder and key ideologue, and his brother Riyaz Bhatkal.

Four low-intensity blasts rocked the busy Junglee Maharaj Road in Pune on August 1 evening injuring one person, reports NDTV.Com. Two other bombs were defused by the Anti-Terror Squad. All explosives were kept in cake boxes and placed within a kilometer range. The explosions took place between 7.37 and 8.15 pm during rush hour in the heart of the city on Junglee Maharaj Road, full of restaurants, shops and the large Sambhaji Park, popular for family outings in the evening. The first blast took place outside the Balgandharva auditorium used to stage plays, at a statue near that theatre, opposite a McDonald’s outlet and near a bank. One of the bombs, placed on a cycle, was hooked up to sophisticated circuitry. The Police said that the explosives near Dena Bank and Garware Bridge were left in the wire-meshed carrier bags, attached to the front of the bicycles and the explosion outside McDonalds went off in a dustbin at its outer gate. According to The Hindu report, the first explosion occurred around 7.30 p.m. near the Balgandharva Rang Mandir, an auditorium on Junglee Maharaj Road followed by second explosion in a dustbin outside the popular fast food joint McDonald’s. Soon after, the third and fourth blasts were reported at Dena Bank and Garware Chowk, in the same vicinity, with the explosive material planted on cycles. The Police said that the explosions were set off with pencil cell detonators placed in a plastic bag, a dustbin and on cycles at two locations. Home Secretary RK Singh said that the injured person is being treated as suspect and questioned by the police. Mr. Singh also suspects a terror angle as it was a planned attack. After the blasts all cities across India are on high alert. A bomb disposal squad swept Jantar Mantar in New Delhi where Anna Hazare and his activists are on a hunger strike, supported by a large crowd.

After the arrest of [the key 2008 Mumbai attacks plotter] Zabiuddin Ansari, his statement was recorded again by the Crime Branch as his name had resurfaced. It was he who identified boys and put them on to Fayaz Kagzi who in turn put them on to Riyaz Bhatkal [one of IM’s top three commanders]. He has connections in Marathwada, Pune and Ahmednagar.” Quoting the ATS chief Rakesh Maria, The Times of India adds, all the suspects involved in the J M Road blasts in Pune have been identified.
