India on April 28 offered assistance to Afghanistan in diverse sectors including defence as Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Afghan President Ashraf Ghani held extensive talks at New Delhi during which both leaders stressed the need for concrete action to dismantle terror networks, reports Zee News. According to sources, Indian side told the Afghan delegation that Afghanistan should "let their defence requirements be known" to India. After the comprehensive talks with Ghani on entire gamut of bilateral ties as well as on key regional and international issues, Modi, at a joint press event with the visiting leader, said he conveyed India's support for his vision for peace and stability in Afghanistan. The Afghan President identified terror as a major challenge facing the region and said his government was determined to make Afghanistan the "graveyard of terror". Without naming Pakistan, which has been accused by the previous Afghan government of supporting violence in Afghanistan, Modi said, "Its (process) success requires a positive and constructive approach from neighbours, including an end to support for violence." Noting that India deeply values its friendship and goodwill with Afghanistan, the Prime Minister said the country stands with the people of Afghanistan as they build a united, stable, democratic and prosperous nation. The Prime Minister also expressed his gratitude to the Afghan security forces, who protect Indians in Afghanistan as their own people. "We share Afghanistan's pain over persisting terrorism and extremist violence that destroy lives and derail progress. I thank him for cooperation against terrorism," Modi commented. Ghani said peace was the main goal of his government as "the shadow of terror haunts our children, our women, our youth...Terror must be confronted and must be overcome.... Our will must not be underestimated and we will not be beaten to submission," Ghani said, adding terror must be "contained if the disease is to be cured". The Afghan President also said the "state systems" must "rise" to understand the challenge as "terrorism cannot be classified into good or bad".

He said, “There are certain things that I obviously cannot discuss here. But if there is any country, why only Pakistan, planning something against my country, we will definitely take some pro-active steps.” “We have to neutralise terrorists through terrorists only. National Investigation Agency (NIA) sources said they have evidence that shows that the arrested Abu Talha Mohammad Fahim alias Pakhi, chief of a JMB (Jama'atul Mujahideen Bangladesh) faction in Bangladesh, is the same Talha Sheikh accused of masterminding the October 2, 2014 Bardhaman (West Bengal) blast, The Times of India reports on August 1. NIA had earlier declared a INR 10,00,000 reward on him. "We are contacting Dhaka Metropolitan Police and we might even request for his extradition if possible," said an NIA officer in Delhi. Pakhi was arrested by Dhaka Metropolitan Police from near the Bangladesh capital on July 27 along with seven others when they were trying to contact Islamic State (IS) operatives. Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) sources in Bangladesh had earlier said they might either come to Kolkata or ask for the extradition of a few of those arrested so they can be tried for the crimes they committed in Bangladesh. Pakhi is the younger son of JMB's founder Maulana Saidur Rehman. Sources said terror operators like Pakhi keep sleeper cells running by providing everything from shelter to SIM cards for leaders and new recruits, who are either not acquainted with the place or have to remain underground. NIA and Bangladesh's RAB had exchanged lists of JMB operatives and Islamist militants believed to be hiding in the two countries about five months ago. NIA had handed over a list of 11 suspects of the Bardhaman blast. RAB, on the other hand, gave a list of 51 fugitive Bangladeshis, 10 of them said to be JMB activists and several members of Harkatul Jihad al Islami (HuJI), along with some gangsters.

Pakistan's Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) has intensified its attempts to push terrorists into India to carry out terror strike in hinterland, official sources said on August 6, reports The Times of India. Quoting intelligence inputs, they said, there have been intensified attempts of infiltration by militants from across the border in recent past. All these attempts were being made at the behest of ISI with the objective of carrying out terror attacks in the hinterland, sources added. The intelligence inputs suggested that a new strategy was hatched by ISI to expand the area of terror strike from Jammu & Kashmir and militants were being trained for the purpose, they said. Union Home Minister (UHM) Rajnath Singh on August 6 said in Lok Sabha (Lower House of Indian Parliament) that there were five infiltration attempts from across the border and four of which were foiled and eight militants were neutralized by the Security Forces in last one month.

Hit by a wave of terror attacks, France said on November 20 that India was on the same boat with it in fighting terror and vowed not to let those responsible for the Paris carnage go unpunished, reports New Indian Express. French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius met Prime Minister Narendra Modi and discussed ways to effectively tackle the menace. “I want to say that France is grateful for the tremendous support it has received from the international community, including Indian friends. The attackers will not go unpunished and our response is and will be strong,” Fabius said while ruling out any possibility of negotiations with terror groups. “We have good cooperation with our Indian friends on this. I discussed it this morning with Prime Minister Modi. We shall develop our cooperation... we are in the same boat,” he underscored. Moreover, France has moved a resolution at the United Nations (UN) for effective action against the Islamic State (IS) which claimed responsibility for the Paris attacks.
