Sources said most of the leaders and workers of JeI and its different front organisations are worried about possible arrest of all top leaders, which might create a serious vacuum and their absence may lead to desertion of JeI by field-level cadres.

Khulna city ameer (chief) of JeI, Mian Golam Parwar, and nine others of the party were sent to Khulna District Jail. The Police interrogated them after taking them on remand twice since their arrest on June 30. During the interrogation, the arrested JeI and ICS leaders have given many important information about their plan for carrying out destructive activities in the city. Three detained JeI leaders disclosed during interrogation that they took up a three-month-long campaign across the country to foil the move of trying the war criminals of 1971. In the face of intensive interrogation, they admitted that they allocated BDT 6.6 million for the campaign project for holding seminars and symposiums across the country, said a top Police official interrogating the JeI leaders. The Jamaat leaders, against whom there is ample evidence of atrocity during the Liberation War, have also formed a committee to prepare a list of war criminals. "The committee has already prepared a list of 50 war criminals which mostly contains the names of Awami League leaders," said the official seeking anonymity.
