The explosion took place at the residence of one TS Boonson who works as a village level worker at Ukhrul Block Developemnt Office (BDO). The injured persons were identified as Boonson’s mother Ruth, his brother Terek and sister-in-law Chaini.

Meanwhile, a hand grenade was recovered at a drain near the residence of a retired Police inspector, identified as Okram Shamungou, of Kwakeithel Laishram Leikai in Imphal West District at around 10 am on July 19. Police bomb experts later detonated the grenade safely.

Also, the All Manipur Recognised Schools Welfare Association on July 19 organized a sit in protest in front of the Pari Emom Singdam Sang School Langjing gate decrying a bomb threat on the school on July 17. But the grenade was found only in the late evening around 8pm the same day, which was later retrieved by the Police, she informed.

Society’s joint secretary Premchand Mayengbam stated that, on July 9, a demand note of INR 400, 000 was placed at the office of the Society by unknown person(s) suspected to be militants of the KCP group with July 20 as the deadline to cough up the amount.

Meanwhile, an Imphal pressure group set up recently to protest against the alleged abduction of a Government contractor by suspected Nationalist Socialist Council of Nagaland-Isak-Muivah (NSCN-IM) cadres decided on July 17 to launch an agitation from July 20 (today) if the outfit fails to resolve the matter, reports The Times of India. The whereabouts of a contractor identified as Irabanta remained untraceable since he left his house on May 27.
