Cache of arms and ammunition recovered in Manipur

Kanglaonline reports that Security Forces (SFs) recovered a cache of arms and ammunition from the foothill of Awaching about one and a half kilometres west of Nongmaiching in Imphal East District on June 1. The recovered items include one G3 rifle with one magazine, one Chinese live hand grenade, one High Explosive-36 hand grenade (without detonator), three lethod shells, 52 rounds of AK series ammunition, 28 rounds of M-16 ammunition, 15 rounds of .32 USM carbine ammunition, one AK series magazine, one I-COM High Frequency wireless set, one nine feet long piece of Chinese made cordex wire and three electrical detonators.

Meanwhile, a Chinese hand grenade was found from the garage of a retired Superintending Engineer, identified as Yumlembam Indrakumar, at Keishampat Leimajam Leikai under Imphal Police Station in Imphal West District. Police suspect that the grenade which was found around 1:50 pm was planted by militants however the motive behind the bomb threat is yet to be ascertained. A Police team retrieved the bomb around 2:30 pm.

Separately, SFs arrested the ‘commander-in-chief’ of Military Council faction of the Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP-MC) identified as Khangembam Amarjit Singh alias Amrita alias Netrajit from Chingmeirong Mamang leikai Imphal West District on June 1.

Further, SFs also arrested one cadre of the Lanchenbi group of KCP-MC, identified as one Laishram Mocha alias Momocha alias Lenmang Chongloi, during a search operation at Upokpi in Imphal West District on May 31. One .9MM pistol was also seized from his possession.

Elsewhere, the Indigenous Democratic Front (IDF) has demanded that the Autonomous District Councils (ADCs) in Manipur should go back to the hill Districts and start operating from there and not from the State capital Imphal, reports The Sangai Express. Mention may be made that ADCs in Naga dominated Districts are operating from Imphal as the United Naga Council (UNC) boycott them.
