Three SOG troopers injured in landmine blast in Odisha
Three
personnel of the Special Operation
Group (SOG) were injured in a landmine
blast by Communist Party of India-Maoist
(CPI-Maoist)
cadres at Kanaguda under Kalimela
Police Station in Malkangiri District
on May 27, reports The Hindu.
An exchange of fire also occurred
at the spot between the Security
Forces and Maoists after the landmine
blast. Union Rural Development (URD)
Minister Jairam Ramesh is scheduled
to visit the District on May 28
(today) to review different developmental
programmes and meet the newly-elected
representatives of local self-Government
body members.
Meanwhile,
ahead of their proposed 24-hour
bandh (shutdown strike) on
May 30, Maoist supporters held a
meeting at Gumphakonda in Kalimela
Police Station limits in the District.
Tribal people armed with their traditional
weapons attended the meeting. Maoists
of Andhra-Odisha Special Border
Zonal Committee (AOSBZC) have given
the bandh call in its area
of operation in both Andhra Pradesh
and Odisha, in protest against non-fulfillment
of a host of their demands, including
a halt in Operation Green Hunt
and withdrawal of Central Forces
from the area.
