Lyari area of Karachi
remained tense
on March 21
due to the ongoing
operation launched
by Security
Forces (SFs)
against the
extortionists,
reported Daily
Times. Clashes
between protesters
and Police were
reported from
a number of
areas. Scores
of Lyari residents
gathered at
Sheedi Village
Road, DD Chaudhry
Road and Saifee
Lane to demonstrate
against the
Law Enforcement
Agencies. They
chanted slogans
against them
and said that
it was a one-sided
and unjustified
operation that
must be ended.
Police sources
said that the
outlawed Pakistan
Amn Committee
(PAC) activists
forced the residents
of Lyari to
protest against
ongoing crackdown
of Police and
Frontier Constabulary.
 
Further, the Police
detained eight
people involved
in violence
and moved them
to an unknown
place for interrogation.
Superintendent
of Police (SP)
City Town Nasir
Aftab accused
the Lyari gangsters
of misguiding
people, saying
that Police
and other forces
demolished several
gambling dens
and now they
(gangsters)
were worried
about their
source of income. 
Meanwhile, Special Investigation
Unit (SIU) of
the Sindh Police
claimed to have
arrested five
extortionists
during separate
raids in Surjani,
Preedy and Garden
areas. The accused
were identified
as Sufiyan,
Yasin, Arsalan
Lodhi, Asad
Ali and Younus.
Four TT pistols
were also recovered
from their possession. |
