The TID arrested a top LTTE cadre, identified as Shantha Kumar Rajan, in Colombo. He was reportedly a close associate of slain LTTE chief Velupillai Prabhakaran and LTTE deputy leader Veerakathy Manivannam aka Castro and was at large for a couple of years. He was also involved in procurements for the LTTE for the last 10 years and was a trained LTTE cadre, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) TID N. Wakishta said. Rajan was active in procurement for the LTTE traveling under a forged passport. He was wanted by the TID and Interpol. Sivakumar was also connected with the explosive laden vehicle found at the Sama Viharaya at Kotahena in 1996. The search for LTTE operatives and important cadres overseas has not been stopped as they were active in other countries. The TID and the Defence Ministry is continuing the search for them and we have not stopped our operations, the DIG added.

Sri Lanka Police have arrested 37 suspects under Emergency Regulations over the alleged assassination attempt on President Mahinda Rajapakse and his family by supporters of the main opposition candidate General (Retired) Sarath Fonseka. The arrestees include a Brigadier, a Colonel, several Army deserters and four civilians. Another 23 Army deserters, who were hiding in General Fonseka's office in Colombo, during the last week's search, have been arrested by the Police. The Police also took General Fonseka's office equipments including 23 computers and four motor bikes into custody.

Two Tamil persons have been arrested in connection with supplying the arms found in a Buddhist temple, Bodhirukkaramaya, in Maligawatta. The Government said that there were plans to assassinate the President and his family on their return to the President's residence following the Election Commissioner's announcement of the final results. More arrests are expected as more information becomes available during the ongoing investigations.
