11 militant outfits of the North East have jointly given a call to boycott the Republic Day (January 26) and to observe a general strike.

In a joint statement, CorCom, an umbrella organization of Manipur-based militant groups, ULFA-I, NDFB-IKS,NLFT,KLO and HNLC have called upon the people of the region to boycott the Republic Day to fight together against the "colonial rule" of India. CorCom consists of KCP, KYKL, PREPAK, PREPAK-Pro, PLA and UNLF.

Republic Day celebrations in Manipur were marred by four bomb blasts amidst high security measures after CorCom of six militant outfits called for a boycott of the day, Police said. However, no one was injured in the explosions.

CorCom has claimed it's the series of bomb blast on Republic Day morning at Babupara around 8 am, Moirangkhom around 9 am, Chingmeirong around 10 am and at Singjamei Chinga Makhong around 11 am. A press statement of the CorCom said that the series of blast was carried as part of the collective call of several outfits of the "WESEA region against the Republic Day celebration on January 26.

The UNLF has refuted any connection with the three persons who reportedly surrendered to 54 Battalion BSF. The names of Pinao alias Tejmani, O Kokchaba alias Tomba and Simon Kuki are not found in the enrolment list of both UNLF and Manipur People's Army (MPA) and they are unknown to the party, said a press release issued by M Sak Hen of the outfit's 'department of publicity'.

Four cadres of UNLF including a 'lieutenant' were arrested by Thoubal District Police commandos from Wabagai Lamkhai under Kakching Police Station in Thoubal District. A source said that the arrested 'lieutenant' of the UNLF has been identified as Leishangthem Umakanta of Singjamei. He was arrested along with a woman cadre and two others.

MHA has identified the entire state of Manipur and lower Assam region of Assam as the two areas in the northeast where the coming Lok Sabha election may be disrupted by militant outfits. While Meitei militant outfits under CorCom may create trouble in Manipur, it is the NDFB-IKS, which is being increasingly perceived as a threat in the lower Assam region. A source said all Meitei militant outfits in Manipur are being closely monitored as intelligence inputs have suggested that they would attempt to trigger violence before, and on, the day of polling.

SFs arrested a another militant identified as Laishram Sanajaoba when they stopped a vehicle travelling from Moreh to Imphal, at Tengnoupal check post in Chandel District for checking. A 9mm pistol with a magazine and five live rounds were recovered from his possession.

'Chairman' of UNLF RK Meghen alias Sanayaima was produced before NIA Court, Guwahati. The NIA has charged 19 members of UNLF including Meghen with multiple cases including waging war against India, extortion and procuring arms from foreign countries. UNLF chief was reportedly arrested on November 30, 2010 in Bihar's East Champaran District, while trying to cross over to India from Bangladesh. The claim is denied by the outfit alleging that Meghen was abducted by Indian and Bangladeshi security services in Dhaka on September 29, 2010 and forcibly brought to India.
